1. Who is responsible?
E-Bike Companion is an independent companion application maintained by its project lead, Michael Gaither. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Fiido or other bicycle, motor or component manufacturers. For privacy questions, use the Support page.
2. Information the app may use
- Location and ride data: If you grant location permission and use GPS-based features, the app can use your location to show your position, record routes and calculate ride statistics. Saved rides may include route coordinates and timestamps.
- Bluetooth and nearby devices: Bluetooth permissions are used to discover and connect to supported bikes or sensors and read the information those devices expose. Device names, connection state and received telemetry may be processed locally.
- Ride history and settings: Ride records, app preferences and imported map data are designed to be stored in local app storage on your device.
- Diagnostics and compatibility evidence: If you choose to run verification or export a diagnostic report, it may contain app/device details, bike or sensor identifiers, telemetry, timestamps and diagnostic events. The app's sanitisation process is intended to remove GPS route coordinates from verification reports, but inspect any report before sharing it.
- Information you choose to share: If you use Android's share, email or other external app features, the information you select is passed to the destination you choose and handled under that service's own privacy policy.
3. How information is used
Information is used to connect to supported devices, display telemetry, record and analyse rides, display maps, save preferences, troubleshoot problems and support voluntary compatibility verification. The app is designed not to require an E-Bike Companion account for core functionality.
4. Network access and third parties
Some functions may use internet access, for example to retrieve online map tiles, open external manufacturer resources or send a report when you explicitly choose an external sharing method. Online map providers and services you open may receive technical information such as your IP address and requested resource. Online map requests may reveal the geographic area being viewed; third-party terms and privacy policies apply.
The project documentation describes the app as having no built-in advertising or analytics service and no required manufacturer cloud account. This statement must be checked against the exact release build and all SDKs before each release.
5. When information is shared
E-Bike Companion is designed not to upload ride history automatically. Information can be shared when you initiate an export, use the Android share sheet, send an email, open a third-party service or voluntarily submit compatibility evidence. Check contents and recipient before sending. Do not share serial numbers, logs or other identifying information unless you are comfortable doing so.
6. Storage, retention and deletion
Data stored locally remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's data, uninstall the app or otherwise remove the files. Exported files may remain in Downloads, backups, email or external services; deleting them from the app does not delete those copies. If you submit information to a third-party platform, use that platform's deletion controls or contact the service.
7. Security
The app aims to keep core records in private app storage and make external sharing an intentional user action. No storage or transmission method is completely risk-free. Keep your device updated, use a secure screen lock and review diagnostic exports before sharing them.
8. Children
E-Bike Companion is a utility app for riders and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Parents or guardians should supervise a child's use of location, Bluetooth and sharing features.
9. Your choices and permissions
You can deny or revoke location and Bluetooth permissions in Android settings, although dependent features may stop working. You can choose whether to record a ride, import maps or share diagnostic information. You can review and delete locally stored rides and files using the app's available controls and device settings.
10. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when app features, data practices or legal requirements change. The effective date will be updated when a revised policy is published.
11. Contact
For privacy questions, visit the E-Bike Companion Support page. A monitored contact email must be added before the Google Play launch.
